Local pawn shop near me has a Model 25. I have never seen one before and it looks well built. It has AMAZING wood on it, i mean like exibition grade that is the nicest I have seen on a non 3k+ gun. It has a Jeweled bolt and Jeweled lifter? (thing that lifts shells from tube to chamber). They are asking 395 for it, I may be able to get them down to $350. I have done searches and can hardly find anything about these other than they were made from 1949-1954 and only like 87,000 or so were made. Should I pull the trigger? The blueing is very good and the barrel says polychoke near the receiver but there is no poly choke. It has a Full choke. The tube where the forearm pump is has some blueing wear but I guess that is to be expected.
I am thinking it may be a nice complement to my Winchester Select trap, Pre-64 Model 70, and FN SPRA1. May even be decent for trap.

If the wood is as nice as you say it is you could make a profit buying it and selling the wood, as the wood should fit a Model 12 if I am not mistaken. Sounds like someone bought the gun and had it worked over with new wood added and the bolt jeweled, etc. I have never heard of a Winchester barrel being marked as Polychoke, that is definitely interesting. Hope to hear from someone else on the forum on that issue.
More questions than answers in my mind. Is the wood original Winchester upgrade, of what style, is it a Bishop/Fajen etc Winchester lookalike upgrade, or some other non original looking custom wood. 25's were only offered as plain barrels, does it have an add on rib of any kind installed? It is definitely unusual to see an upgraded Model 25, they were marketed as a cheaper version of the Model 12.
Model 25s are known to be good guns, basically Model 12s without the takedown feature. Some people say they are better than Model 12s. For $350 you would be getting a very solid gun. I would probably buy it if I liked the looks of the wood and the gun fit me.

At that price and condition I would by it. I have looked at 25's in the past but they seem to all have more drop in the stock than a Model 12. Hence, they don't fit me as is.
That said, if I found one at a good price, the stock could be adjusted.

Polychoke still adds vent ribs to plain barrel shotguns, which would explain that.
There isn't much collector value to any Model 25. They were the plain sister to the Model12. But, I'd pay two hundred dollars and add a good Model 12 wood set with 14 3/8 pull over a soft newer Pachy Skeet pad if you'd trade me the wood from yours, and it's nicely checkered and not buggered or lopped way back where I can't get 14' out of it with a pad.
You'd still have a Model 25 that looked nice, just not quite. And my 1947 field grade M12 with a real polychoke would be two hundred dollars prettier.

The 'poly' on the barrel may mean Poly rib. I think it does have a nice rib, but it looks like it was made with gun. Very origional looking.

I think that is what had us both confused. You didn't mention a rib in your first post. A Polychoke rib will have the word Polychoke imbedded in the rib near the breech end of the barrel. They are nice looking ribs. So you were seeing 'Polychoke' and 'Full' near the breech end of the barrel. You can verify that the rib was added on if you do not see the WP proof mark on the barrel, as it is no doubt covered by the rib.
Sounds like a decent deal. A Model 25 with a 28' barrel and a rib should be well balanced. Post a photo if you do decide to buy it.

I did not pick it up. Further inspection and it was a polychoke rib and the whole gun was refinished. I could barley see the winchester marking next to ' Model 25' so i guess it was reblued and spruced up. I picked up an imaculent 870 MAG Wingmaster with RemChoke's instead. I still might go back and get the 25 if you guys think it is that good of a deal.

With your new information, I would pass on it. It's too much money for a 'shooter'.
